Description
In a nutshell:
A deep, dark and award winning Madiran from the heart of Gascon south west of France.
The lowdown:
In true Madiran style this is a deep, dark and brooding number and is made mainly from Tannat one of the signature red grapes of this part of the world. It has a nose of plums and blackberries, herbs and tobacco with hints of vanilla and toasty oak followed by plums and liquorice on the palate. With a silky mouthfeel, sleek tannins have just a touch of dark chocolate on the finish it's a very food friendly wine.
The Producer:
Domaine Berthoumieu is a small Gascon domaine in the north of the Madiran appellation. Where, since 2017 Claire and Marion Bortolussi have managed its 26 hectares of vineyards. Their wines offer tremendous character and style, genuine 'vins de terroir', and are some of the best in the appellation. They have two different plots: one on a pebbly clay plateau to the west of the village facing south towards the Pyrenees, and the other a gravelly slope facing southeast to the east of the village.
When to drink:
It's a real feel of South West France and a great partner to rich hearty casseroles, cassoulets and belly pork.
Suitable for Vegans
