Description
In a nutshell:
A striking blackcurrant and herby example of high altitude Chilean Carmenere.
The lowdown:
The grape which Chile has claimed as its own goes from strength to strength in the hands of Frenchman Denis Duveau, who dreamed of making old world style terroir-specific wines in the new world. He settled on this site high in the Rapel Valley where the days are long and sunny and the nights are cool.
The Producer:
The man behind El Grano is Frenchman Denis Duveau. Having sold his Loire Valley estate, Domaine des Roches Neuves, in 1991 he left for Chile to became a consultant to several wineries and in 2002 set up his own label El Grano for his own wines which come from the Rapel valley an ideal region for quality red wine.
When to drink:
It's all fermented in stainless steel, never oak, which produces a refreshingly different wine and one worth seeking out.
