Description
In a nutshell:
An organic, elegant and complex Chilean blend of mainly Syrah and Carmenère.
The lowdown:
Named after the oak forests that surround Emiliana's Colchagua home this is the flagship wine of their estate and it doesn't disappoint. A field blend of their best grapes, it's full-bodied and intense with aromas of redcurrants, strawberries and blackberries. As the flavours develop in the mouth notes of liquorice and vanilla emerge along with touches of violet. And it's held together really well with bold, grippy tannins that give an excellent structure.
The Producer:
Emiliana are one of Chile's most exciting producers and pioneers in organic and biodynamic winemaking. Started back in 1986 by Rafael and José Guilisasti and since 2000 the celebrated winemaker, Alvaro Espinoza has also been closely involved in the project. They produce award-winning wines from almost 1,000 hectares of vineyards in prime sites including Casablanca, Maipo, Cachapoal, Colchagua and Bio Bio. Their spectacular biodynamic vineyard and winery at Los Robles is a model that attracts visiting viticulturalists and winemakers from across the world. Emiliana's innovative and natural-leaning wines are made with great care and attention and the results are inspiring.
When to drink:
A complex and multi faceted wine it's best decanted an hour before drinking and pairs well with grilled beef, or lamb; it also stands up well to spicy sauces.
Suitable for Vegans, Organic
