A bright and balanced single vineyard Stellenbosch Chardonnay.
The lowdown:
A wine carefully balanced between citrus and mineral freshness, ripe stone and tropical fruits, between preserving those crisp fruit flavours and the roundness, softness and complexity of subtle oak ageing. Spending 9 months on oak, of which only 30% was new, the rest being used, adds a lovely mouthfeel and complex spice and savoury notes without becoming too rich and creamy. The clean fruits of lemon, apple, pear and pineapple shine through with a crisp and tangy finish.
The Producer:
Journey's End Vineyard is a picturesque Stellenbosch wine farm surrounded by the beautiful Schapenberg hills. Since 1995 it's belonged to the Gabb Family, originally from Shropshire in the UK, who, from small beginnings, have built a highly respected estate. The family's aim is to create top-quality wines which, using minimal intervention techniques, remain true to their terroir and show a unique expression of it. And the fact that their wines are regular award winners is a good indication of the standards they maintain.
When to drink:
Classically pairs with seafood, roast chicken and pork dishes.
