The lowdown:
This world-famous wine is deep yellow in colour with a lustrous sheen, ultra-fine, dynamic bubbles dance in the glass. Intense, concentrated bouquet of peach and plum combined with a delicious toastiness in the form of roasted hazelnut and almond aromas. Energetic and vibrant on the palate, starting out a silky, almost oily with soft flavours of candied citrus and iodised spices. The finish is underpinned by slightly oaky, sappy and saline notes that create a sensation of delicacy and concentration.
The Producer:
Champagne Louis Roederer was established in 1776 and remains under the ownership of the Rouzaud family to this day. With over 240ha of vineyards located exclusively in Grands and Premiers Crus villages, which contribute their productions to approximately 70% of their non-vintage wines and 100% of their vintage wines. Pioneers in sustainable farming, Louis Roederer use organic practices in their vineyards, and are certified organic in 115ha, with the remainder of the estate in conversion. The house makes a range of champagne styles, all following to guideline of elegant and refreshing yet with an impressive depth of flavour.
When to drink:
Fully living up to it's vaunted status it's ideal with canapes or with firm white fish such as monkfish.
