An opulent red which epitomizes Californian boldness, this pours into the glass with a profound inky hue which hints at the richness that's to follow. Enticing aromas of ripe blackberries, dark plums intermingle with spices, notably black pepper and a hint of smoky oak while on the tongue the layers of dense, dark fruit, touches of dark chocolate, and silky vanilla lead to an enduring and warming finish.
The Producer:
The Maggio family have been growing wine in Lodi, since the late 1920s, but it wasnt until just over twenty years ago, when they bought that winery that they used to send their fruit to that they started to produce their own wines. Since then, in the hands of Rudy Maggio and his three daughters, Maggio Family Vineyards has gone from strength to strength and the now have around 1,000 hectares of vineyards throughout California's Lodi region.
When to drink:
Pair it with a hearty, slow-cooked stew or a perfectly grilled ribeye, for a culinary match made in heaven.
